Who can Play in COJGA?

Below are the basic requirements to play in COJGA events

6 to 8 years of age

  1. Each player must be no younger than six years old or older than eight years old the day of the event.
  2. Each player must have his or her own clubs.
  3. Each player must have a basic knowledge of how to hit a golf ball.
  4. Each player must be accompanied by a parent or guardian
  5. Each player must arrive one half hour before the first designated tee time.
  6. There is no need to qualify for this program.

9 to 11 years of age

  1. Each player shall attend a qualifier event to demonstrate his or her golf skills prior to placement in the COJGA tournament program.
  2. Each player will be evaluated on their driving, chipping, and putting skills. They may be asked to play up to two rounds on the Awbrey Glen Loop course at any qualifier.
  3. Each player will be designated for the forward tees, short course, or referred to an instructional program by COJGA officials, based on their demonstrated skill level.
  4. Boys and girls who have played in the 9 to 11 year old tournaments the previous year are exempt from qualifying.
  5. Players who are 9,10,or 11 on June 1st of the current season will play in this division through the Tournament of Champions.

12 to 13 years of age

  1. Each player shall attend a qualifier event to demonstrate his or her golf skills prior to placement in the COJGA tournament program.
  2. Boys and girls who played in COJGA the previous season are exempt from this process.
  3. Boys and girls who were members of their school Varsity or Jr. varsity or have an established, qualifying, USGA handicap are exempt from this process.
  4. Players who are 12 or 13 on June 1st of the current season will play in this division through the Tournament of Champions.

14 to 15 years of age

  1. Each player shall attend a qualifier event to demonstrate his or her golf skills prior to placement in the COJGA tournament program.
  2. Boys and girls who played in COJGA the previous season are exempt from this process.
  3. Boys and girls who were members of their school Varsity or Jr. varsity or have an established, qualifying, USGA handicap are exempt from this process.
  4. Players who are 14 or 15 on June 1st of the current season will play in this division through the Tournament of Champions.

16 to 17 years of age plus any graduating High School Senior (Adopted 2005)

  1. Each player shall attend a qualifier event to demonstrate his or her golf skills prior to placement in the COJGA tournament program.
  2. Boys and girls who played in COJGA the previous season are exempt from this process.
  3. Boys and girls who were members of their school Varsity or Jr. varsity or have an established, qualifying, USGA handicap are exempt from this process.
  4. Players who are 16 or 17 on June 1st of the current season plus a graduating High School Senior, regardless of age, will be eligible to play in this division through the Tournament of Champions.
